10/5/2025 Farm Update

While we scaled back our plantings this year with aim to simplify the share, the good news for you is that is easier said than done so there is bounty in the homestead garden. Available in the share room now are winter squash, tomatoes, and potatoes! Our shareholders have been dedicated and supportive over the years and we’re glad to offer the bounty to you.  This has been a somewhat experimental year and we’re definitely learning things, which we’ll take into next season.

If you like the idea of a younger, smaller more delicate kale, check out the new patch in Irene’s. There’s still abundance in the established patch too.

With four weeks left in the share, we are still seeing warm days in the coming week. That means the cherry tomatoes will continue to ripen. There’s a new planting of spinach available.

Fifteen households have registered so far for the 15th annual Swap it! Community Trading Event held in the Foodshed at littleGrasse on Sunday, October 12th! We see many tantalizing items as we check out the RSVPs. People are bringing a world of things including handmade books, wooden spoons, linocut prints, knitted items, herbal medicine, lemon curd, ferments, sourdough, and much more. If you have not committed to joinung us yet, there’s still time to plan a few things to bring. To get a sense of the action, see photos from past events here

The final Garden Morning and potlucks of the season is Saturday, October 25th.

There’s a new face you’ll be seeing around the farm. Max is from Atlanta, Georgia and last week he finished a through hike, 183 days on the Appalachian Trail!

We are hosting a game camera and audio recorder for the semester. St. Lawrence professor Erika Barthelmess is researching wildlife along the Grasse and Raquette River corridors comparing more and less densely populated segments. Senior Liz stopped out to set up the devices and it was fun to catch up. Liz was a community-based learning student with a placement here on the farm as a first-year student.

How has this summer’s offering worked for you? It’s been an adjustment for us and we want to get your input too. Click here for a short 8 question survey, or if you prefer shoot us an email at littlegrasse@gmail.com.
