Getting comfortable

A long-time member of the CSA, Sarah, shared a story recently. She had stopped by the farm for a few minutes to harvest goodies as part of her You Pick Greens share. Her sons decided to stay in the car initially, mesmerized by what they were doing. Sarah went out into the fields to pick some herbs and greens. When she returned a few minutes later, she found her youngest son with a basket full of kale. He had made his way to the wash shed, got the needed supplies, found the kale patch and begun his work.

To me, that represents the best glimmers of a community farm in action. We nurture a landscape, that in turn nurtures us. Within that cycle, there is space for every person to participate. Growing food isn’t particularly glizty or showstopping. Yet, it never fails to offer small bits of satisfaction. Where else in our lives to you have that autonomy to plug into something so directly beneficial to your own and your community’s health?

Join us next Saturday the 9th for the September Garden Morning. There will be various tasks from 9am-noon and no previous experience is required. The noontime lunch is a potluck. We’ll prepare a big main dish and others can bring items to share as well.

The final Garden Morning of the season with potluck is Saturday October 7th. Come “get comfortable,” in the garden with us!
