Greetings Shareholders:
On the brink of a new growing season there is much to celebrate and acknowledge. Many improvements happened last year (washstand, signage and clearing additional field space) and we will continue to refine our systems in 2021. We are ready again, to provide a healthy respite in a lush gardenscape, open to all members during any daylight hours. A cornerstone of our share is the ability to come as often as you choose, finding the freshest seasonal options each visit.
The exhaustion of the 2020 growing season for us, revolved around the most difficult experiences of the death of Bob’s father in June, the drought for the majority of the season and the uncertainty of managing a public space during a global health crisis. These three factors were the backdrop of our daily lives, creating a hum of uncertainty. And yet- the season proved to be one of the most rewarding of the farm’s 12 years. A central part of that triumph was the enthusiasm of the shareholders and the community interest in littleGrasse. Our community farm was successful in providing a safe space for you to get out of doors and fulfill the littleGrasse mission of connecting curious eaters directly to the source of wonderful seasonal foods.
A mutual trust is essential for the resilience of our farm. Our model is intended to feed people, not sell food. We do not strive to provide all items non-stop throughout the growing season because practically speaking, it’s not possible. However, we promise you that there will be a regular diversity of offerings and that popular items will be available more than the unusual items. You must also trust that we place equal importance on providing you high quality produce, herbs and flowers while also remaining financially healthy. In turn, we trust you to harvest what your house can enjoy fresh and not to “take advantage,” by harvesting more when there are limits. In our mutual trust, we will ensure that we coexist happily and the farm is resilient! These shares are the only way we distribute the produce grown at littleGrasse and besides our own homesteading needs, our shareholders are our top priority.
Name change! Our cornerstone share has been called, You Pick for the last three years. The share has been renamed to Free Choice, to reflect the flexibility in the share, while also including the many items that we pre-harvest on behalf of the shareholders that are available in the wash stand area (potatoes, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and more). Our shares will still have length options (Full Season, Spring-Summer Only and Fall Only). As always, the best overall value is the full season share.
