Farm Happenings
Thank you chickens. You enriched our soils and we loved spending the season with such a curious and healthy group of birds.
While we mostly focus on food crops at littleGrasse, side projects such as the pumpkin contest add a whimsical note to the farm. See video announcing winners of this year’s pumpkin contest here.
Another autumn tradition is a year-end shareholder feedback survey. It’s an important element of the farm share and we read all your comments and think about what improvements to make for the following season, for example an early planting of radishes, additional plantings of head lettuce and updated signage. We’ll send out the survey soon, remember to find a quiet moment and let us know what works for you and suggestions for improvements.
We’ve been preparing for the next garlic planting by cracking the bulbs into individual cloves. Come plant garlic with us Saturday October 23rd, anytime 10am-1pm.
We have a bed of parsnips, but it has not been cold enough to dig them. Parsnips sweeten considerably after they’ve been exposed to below freezing temperatures. Hopefully we’ll get some cooler weather and dig later this month.

Last night we ate peanut noodles loaded with every color of vegetable we could find. A new bed of carrots is marked this week in addition to the deep purple variety.

The harvest of Papa Cacho fingerling potato was strong. Potatoes originated from the Andes mountains nearly 10,000 years ago. Try these red Peruvian beauties roasted.
Tips for Success
- Stock up! Maple syrup at the farm from fellow shareholder Jim Smith of Morley Maple. There are pints, quarts and half gallons available through the end of October. Pay by cash or check made out to littleGrasse.
- People are online now more than ever, and we don’t want our unique farm share to get lost in the information tsunami. If you think the farm has had a positive impact on your life, consider leaving a review on our Google Business Profile here or at Facebook @littlegrasse. Thank you.
