Harvest is open at littleGrasse

Hi farm shareholders:
We are ready for your visits to the farm! Lingering is welcome, bring friends or family or a snack to enjoy the spring birdsong and growth.

Orientation for NEW shareholders or anyone who wants a refresher: 30 minutes. Friday, May 23rd at 5:30pm or Sunday, May 25th at 1pm. If you cannot participate in either of these options, that’s ok, call or text Flip at 315-854-5399 to set up another time in the coming weeks.

We’ve got very abundant spinach (plants over wintered from last fall). It’s a perfect time to make a saag, soup, or another cooked dish where lots of spinach is needed. We estimate that patch will be available for a week or so, then a new spring planting will be available.

It’s been a chilly, cloudy spring which translates to some sluggish growth. Soon we’ll have kale and chard available.

One of the many things we love about offering a farm share where we welcome you into the fields, is the chance to share uncommon items that aren’t available in the markets. For example, right now we have leaf fennel and lovage and these flavor packed herbs can pep up many dishes. We toss minced fennel fronds into salads and I’d puree a stalk or two of the lovage (related to celery) into that cooked spinach dish.

Items available now: Arugula, garlic greens (immature garlic), head lettuce, leaf fennel, lemon balm, lovage, mint, oregano, rhubarb, sorrel, thyme.

Fresh head lettuce! Match crop name on the whiteboard with the tall wooden sign in the field marking the available crop.

We invite you to the first Garden Morning of the season on Saturday, May 31st. Field tasks for all ages from 10am- noon with potluck lunch at noon. Come for any or all of it!

10 Steps to an Awesome Greens & Beyond You Pick Visit
1. Come any daylight hours, 7 days a week and brings bags.
2. Park on grass in barnyard so that there is enough space for another car to pull all the way around inner gravel circle.
3. Wash or sanitize your hands.
4. Write date by your name on clipboard.
5. Read the big whiteboard to see what is available, where it’s located, notes on how to harvest it. If there’s any limits on the crop they will be written in red next to the plant name. Some people like to take a picture of the board as a reminder when they are in the field.
6. Grab harvest tools and containers of your choice.
7. Harvest as many items that you want. Location of crop may have changed since your last visit, confirm crop is marked with large wooden sign.
8. Optional- Wash items at metal table in share room, we have small and large greens spinners. There’s a large food waste tote to throw culls or extra debris.
9. Leave all used harvest tools in large galvanized bucket on right side of share room. We’ll handle the tool washing.
10. Repeat as often as you like!

May your harvest be peaceful and bring much delight to your springtime meals.
