Chard

Harvest Window: June to frost (around mid-September)

General Info
This plant is in the same family as beets, spinach, amaranth, quinoa and lamb’s quarters. (Amaranththaceae and Chenopodiaceae). Chard is high in nutrients with vibrant stalks in a variety of colors from white, orange, magenta and golden. The leafy green has crunchy stalks which are also edible. The culture of this plant is ‘cut and come again,’ like kale and collards. This means we plant after the last danger of frost and can harvest from the same planting for weeks (or months) as long as there are no unforeseen pest or disease issues. We establish plants in the springtime and continually harvest from them. We usually re-plant in mid-summer for a fresh, healthy flush of chard into the fall.
