Also known as husk tomato. Ready to harvest in northern New York in late August and September.

Harvest Info
To know when to pick the groundcherry, watch the husk on the outside. The plant produces papery shells and the ripe fruit falls to the ground and the husk is dry and deep yellow. They are the sweetest when the fruit itself has no greenish coloration and is bright yellow/light orangish.

Storage/Preservation tips
Will last 2-3 weeks, either at room temperature with the husk on, or in the fridge with husk removed.

Cooking tips
Tasty as a raw snack. Also tasty in fresh hot sauces, jams and pies.
